Outdoor furniture is used in a wide range of places, including balconies, gardens, resorts, hotels, which determines the huge market demand for it. Due to the characteristics of mass production, low price, environmental protection and durability, PE rattan outdoor furniture accounts for more than 60% of the total outdoor furniture market. Besides, the number of imitation rattan furniture factories is increasing every year.

If you also plan to enter this industry and get a share of the pie, the two important production processes shared below will definitely help you!

The general process of PE rattan outdoor furniture

1. The PE rattan outdoor furnitureis mainly composed of three parts:

① the main frame, ② the rattan weaving and winding and ③ the cushion.

2. The general process flow is as follows:

Product design → Material selection → Frame making → Spraying treatment → Rattan weaving → Finished product inspection

Process for the hardware frame of PE rattan outdoor furniture

Aluminum alloy or stainless steel are often used as the main frame material for PE rattan tables and chairs. The frame is not only related to the artistry of the overall shape of the furniture, but also the rationality of its structure deeply affects the stability and durability of the product. Therefore, various factors need to be comprehensively considered in the design.

Frame making process

Opening → Bending → Welding → Grinding → Correction → Forming

Take the frame of PE rattan chair as an example. Its metal frame mainly includes three parts: seat with back, left armrest and right armrest. The components are first welded together to join the aluminum tubes and profiles made by rolling, extrusion and other processes. And then grind the solder joints to ensure that there are no slag inclusions, pores, weld flashes, wire ends, undercuts, and spatters at the welds.

Then carry out the surface treatment and correction according to different design requirements. So that it can remove oxide scale, rust, depression, oil stains and other defects formed during processing or storage. And further make it smooth and meticulous to ensure the service life of the product.

After the components of the metal frame are polished and corrected, the frame can be woven with PE and PVC rattan by hand.

PE Rattan weaving process

Wrapping the frame → Weaving the bottom layer → Weaving the main vertical lines → Weaving the top layer → Finishing → Installing the pipe sleeve or plug → Inspection

(1) Wrappingthe frame: The aluminum frame is pre-wrapped in order to avoid the following situation:

  • Theframe is exposed due to the insufficiently dense weaving of the rattan material.
  • The color of the frame and the rattan material are inconsistent.

(2) Weaving the bottom layer: The bottom layer can enhance the resilience performance of the rattan material and avoid the depression of the sitting surface caused by the long-term static pressure of the human body.

(3) Weaving the main vertical lines: Determine the number of vertical lines on the seating surface and the back panel according to the weaving method of the product.

(4) Weaving the top layer: The existing weaving techniques of PE rattan chairs mainly follow the techniques of traditional rattan furniture. The types of weaving patterns are extremely rich, with the new weaving patterns constantly emerging.

(5) Finishing: Finishing weaving around the product, armrests, and four feet.

(6) Installing the pipe sleeve or plug: To make up for the shortcomings of poor safety and aesthetics of the exposed ends of metal pipe fittings. Generally, after completing the above process, factories will use plastic pipe sleeves and other accessories to seal the furniture at the position where the four feet are 3~4cm away from the ground.

(7) Inspection

Quality rattan furniture does not require much caring and maintenance as it can be left outside all year round without being damaged by the weather. Factory must check the firmness of the frame and the density of the PE rattan before packing the goods. What’s more, they should strictly test the quality of the rattan, in order to ensure the reliable quality of products for consumers. PE Rattan is known for being strong and durable, but the quality of the synthetic version will depend on the kind of materials used and the place you bought it. Our company has been providing high quality PE rattan since its establishment. Moreover, the products have passed SGS Test standard, not fading and not bursting even in the continuous exposure to natural environment 2000H.
